Featured Article: Vogue Japan 2013 Covers Recap

This year, there were two notable cover appearance comebacks on Vogue Japan. Russian catwalker Sasha Pivovarova and Japanese model turned actress Tao Okamoto returned to grace the covers of Vogue Japan since a very long time and they were both photographed by Patrick Demarchelier.

The 70 year old French fashion photographer also snapped four other covers for Japanese Vogue this year. He shot Hungarian beauty Vanessa Axente (the upcoming face of Chanel Beauty) for February, Lindsey Wixson for March, Cara Delevigne for September, and Karlie Kloss for November (the leggy Ms.Kloss also featured on the June issue, shot by Hedi Slimane). Vanessa, Lindsey and Cara were all first timers for the magazine.

Other first timers on Vogue Japan front pages were Joan Smalls (by Terry Richardson), Kati Nescher (by Mikael Jansson), and Bette Franke (by Giampaolo Sgura). The remaining cover girls this year are Victoria’s Secret Angel from Netherlands, Doutzen Kroes (in Prada Spring Summer 2013, shot by Mikael Jansson for April issue), and Raf Simons’ favourite Russian, Daria Strokous (in Givenchy Fall Winter 2013 sweatshirt, shot by Sølve Sundsbø for December).
