Featured Article: Vogue Portugal 2013 Covers Recap

Vogue Portugal is getting better in their covers line up. Although the headlines are still occupied the majority of the cover, but at least they got better images compared to last year.

Some of our favourite from this year’s selection are Aida Ainulyte‘s green and white combination on February issue by Mário Príncipe; Iris Egbers‘ fiery red hair on March issue by Kevin Sinclair; Cara Delevigne‘s bold pose by Mario Testino for June; and Hana Jirickova pink-ish cover for October issue by Marcin Tyszka (the Czech model also landed the December issue of the magazine).

The most interesting cover image this year goes to Karolina Kurkova‘s January issue, shot by Giampaolo Sgura. The Czech supermodel laughed in a manic way, styled in vibrant red outfit, retro hair, and animal print details. We are strangely intrigued by the image.

The rest of the cover girls this year are featuring Kati Nescher, Sharam Diniz, Magdalena Frackowiak (we can’t wait to see her rocking the runway of this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show!), Madison Hope Headrick, Natalia Uliasz, and Valerija Kelava. Let’s hope Vogue Portugal can keep up their good works this year and impress us again next year.

Featured Article: Vogue China 2013 Covers Recap

Vogue China is continuing their love for plain background in this year’s line up. 17 out of 19 covers used single solid color of either grey, white (with a hint of twigs), maroon, blue-ish, or gold.

Our favourite this year’s goes to Arizona Muse with strong pose for March and Li Bingbing serene yet elegant look on October issue, which happens to be the only covers with multiple color stroke as the backdrop. Maybe they should take some risk and make cover with more dynamic and vibrant background.

Eventhough we are not really digging the boring use of background, but we appreciate the amazing set of cover stars this year. They tapped acclaimed homegrown actors Zhou Xun, Maggie Chung, Zhang Ziyi, Li Bingbing, and Shu Qi who posed in front of Karl Lagerfeld, Sølve Sundsbø, Patrick Demarchelier, Chen Man, and Mario Testino lens respectively. Angelica Cheung, who has been editor since its launch in September 2005, also tapped top fashion photographers Patrick Demarchelier, Inez and Vinoodh, Willy Vanderperre, and Josh Olins to work with her on the cover shoots this year.

They also have singer turned fashion designer Victoria Beckham, and top catwalkers Constance Jablonski, Fei Fei Sun (she landed two covers this year!), Cara Delevigne (her first slot for Vogue China), Doutzen Kroes, Sasha Pivovarova, Kati Nescher, Xiao Wen Ju, Liu Wen, Daria Strokous, Sui He, and Mariacarla Boscono (who made a notable comeback in 2013).

Vogue China celebrating their 100th issue this year with special issue photographed by Mario Testino, and we are wishing them the very best for another 100 issues.

Which one is your favourite from Vogue China this year? Feel free to share to us in the comment box below. You can also read our 2012, 2011, and 2010 recaps.

Featured Article: Vogue UK 2013 Covers Recap

Aah, Alexandra Shulman and her obsession to Kate Moss. The British supermodel landed at least a cover consistently almost every year since her debut in March 1993. In the past four years, she has landed sixth covers and twice this year alone (June and December). Those covers rounding up Kate‘s total of 34th time as cover girl for the magazine. Kate Moss even joined the magazine as Contributing Fashion Editor with her first story due to feature in the upcoming Spring issue. Hopefully Alexandra Shulman will feature other supermodels than Kate Moss like Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington or perhaps she should take a risk and tap new crop of model such as Sam Rollinson.

Other than that, we are extremely happy that she gave more cover slots to models. From first timers Kate Upton, Cara Delevigne, Edie Campbell, Kati Nescher, to returning cover girls Freja Beha Erichsen and Daria Werbowy. Hopefully this trend will continue next year!

The rest of the cover stars are Beyoncé (first time cover girl for the mag) by Arthur Elgort, Helena Bonham Carter by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, Alexa Chung by Patrick Demarchelier, and our fave Claire Danes by Nathaniel Goldberg. Which one is your fave, guys?

Featured Article: Vogue Japan 2013 Covers Recap

This year, there were two notable cover appearance comebacks on Vogue Japan. Russian catwalker Sasha Pivovarova and Japanese model turned actress Tao Okamoto returned to grace the covers of Vogue Japan since a very long time and they were both photographed by Patrick Demarchelier.

The 70 year old French fashion photographer also snapped four other covers for Japanese Vogue this year. He shot Hungarian beauty Vanessa Axente (the upcoming face of Chanel Beauty) for February, Lindsey Wixson for March, Cara Delevigne for September, and Karlie Kloss for November (the leggy Ms.Kloss also featured on the June issue, shot by Hedi Slimane). Vanessa, Lindsey and Cara were all first timers for the magazine.

Other first timers on Vogue Japan front pages were Joan Smalls (by Terry Richardson), Kati Nescher (by Mikael Jansson), and Bette Franke (by Giampaolo Sgura). The remaining cover girls this year are Victoria’s Secret Angel from Netherlands, Doutzen Kroes (in Prada Spring Summer 2013, shot by Mikael Jansson for April issue), and Raf Simons’ favourite Russian, Daria Strokous (in Givenchy Fall Winter 2013 sweatshirt, shot by Sølve Sundsbø for December).
