Featured Article: GQ UK 2013 Covers Recap

Before we start the recap, we’d like to express out concern to GQ UK: They should never make another cover with a tacky fire thingy like their July issue with Andy Murray. Ever. We loathe it so much.

In 2013, GQ UK has five covers fronted by beautiful females: Academy Award-nominated actress Jessica Chastain who showed her inner vixen in front of Ellen von Unwerth‘s lens, the cool singer Rita Ora, the ever sexy Rihanna (her snake hair was art directed by the acclaimed artist Damian Hirst), and the lovely actress Emma Watson who landed two cover slots (May and October).

The rest of the cover subjects this year were males: politician Boris Johnson, actors Idris Elba, Bradley Cooper, Henry Cavill, Russell Brand, Michael Douglas and James Franco, fashion designer and movie director Tom Ford, band Arctic Monkeys, and last but not least five members of the sensational boyband, One Direction.

The cover line up is quite ok, with majority of first timers on the front pages. They also celebrating their 25th anniversary this year. Our fave are Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba, Arctic Monkeys, and Rihanna. We are looking forward for next year’s and happy anniversary GQ UK!

Tell us your fave in the comment box below.

Featured Article: Vogue Japan 2013 Covers Recap

This year, there were two notable cover appearance comebacks on Vogue Japan. Russian catwalker Sasha Pivovarova and Japanese model turned actress Tao Okamoto returned to grace the covers of Vogue Japan since a very long time and they were both photographed by Patrick Demarchelier.

The 70 year old French fashion photographer also snapped four other covers for Japanese Vogue this year. He shot Hungarian beauty Vanessa Axente (the upcoming face of Chanel Beauty) for February, Lindsey Wixson for March, Cara Delevigne for September, and Karlie Kloss for November (the leggy Ms.Kloss also featured on the June issue, shot by Hedi Slimane). Vanessa, Lindsey and Cara were all first timers for the magazine.

Other first timers on Vogue Japan front pages were Joan Smalls (by Terry Richardson), Kati Nescher (by Mikael Jansson), and Bette Franke (by Giampaolo Sgura). The remaining cover girls this year are Victoria’s Secret Angel from Netherlands, Doutzen Kroes (in Prada Spring Summer 2013, shot by Mikael Jansson for April issue), and Raf Simons’ favourite Russian, Daria Strokous (in Givenchy Fall Winter 2013 sweatshirt, shot by Sølve Sundsbø for December).

Featured Article: Glamour UK 2013 Covers Recap

Glamour UK has less covers this year, but with better cover stars. They tapped popular singers (Rita Ora, Jessie J, Nicole Scherzinger, Myleene Klass—who’s famous locally, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry (the cover was “inspired” by the February 1995 issue of Vogue Paris, by Mario Testino).

They also featured the current in demand actresses and actor for their 2013 cover slots (Emma Stone, Diane Kruger, January Jones, Jessica Alba, Gwyneth Paltrow, Daniel Radcliffe, Zooey Deschanel, Rebel Wilson—in a cover inspired by Victoria Beckham’s Glamour US version, and Lily Collins).

Fun fact, there is no Cheryl Cole cover for the first time since 2010! They still heavy on the text, but at least giving us interesting color palette, unlike last year’s. Our favourite from Glamour UK this year would be Jessica Alba’s May issue (love her striking pose), Daniel Radcliffe’s July, and Taylor Swift’s November cover.
