Read on below to know more about the statuesque beauty.

You were an Worldwide Exclusive for Louis Vuitton recently for their Spring Summer 2018 fashion show, we’d like to hear about the exciting process!

In Holland I went to a casting to meet Ashley Brokaw, a short time after that my agent told me that I was in option for the Louis Vuitton show. I went to Paris to meet Nicolas (Ghesquière) and within a few days I was booked for the show. I was so incredibly happy when I heard this. The whole team was so sweet and caring and I had an amazing time working with them. Walking the show was like a dream coming true. It was such a beautiful collection and I am really grateful that I have been part of it.

We understand that you have Indonesian heritage, can you elaborate more about that? And have you ever visited Indonesia?

Yes, my mom is from the Netherlands and my dad from Indonesia. Sadly enough I haven’t been to Indonesia yet but I definitely would love to go there someday. It seems like a beautiful country and it would be interesting to see where my roots come from.

Who are the models that you look up to as inspiration to work in this industry? Have you ever met your favourite models/celebrity and get starstruck?

I think that it is really difficult to chose a specific person because there are so many models that do really great and are inspirational in their own way.

Opening major shows, gracing the cover of Vogue Italia and walking for Victoria’s Secret fashion show are some of models dreams. What would be your dream job in modeling industry?

For me, walking this show was already a dream that came true. Of course I hope to do more shows and I would love to shoot a campaign for a big brand or grace on the cover of Vogue Italia.

After photo shoots and shows I love to wash my hair and use a hair mask. Instead of washing it out after a few minutes I like to keep it for a bit longer, or sometimes I wash it out the next day. It really helps to keep my hair soft. For skincare I don’t do that much. I always wash my skin properly and use a good moisturizer afterwards.

What are your essential things to pack during casting week?

I always bring a bottle of water, some food, and of course my heels. Beside this I always try to have something with me that I can do if I have to wait for a long time, for example a book/magazine to read or homework.

We learn that you are signed by some of the world’s top modelling agencies – Micha Models Amsterdam, Women Management Milan, Paris and New York, and Premier Models London, can you share to us the story behind how you started modelling?

I actually never thought of modelling myself before I started, until Micha scouted me on Instagram. Since then it has all started.

Which one these is more of your hobby: reading books, watching movies/tv series and listen to music? And who/what are your current favourites?

I prefer watching movies and tv series but I also love to listen to music. Designated Survivor has been one of my favourite series so far and when it comes to movies I like to watch thrillers. I listen to different styles of music but pop is my favourite.

What do you usually do during your free time? And do you have any hidden talent?

I love to go shopping, go for a run or just relax during my free time.

Lastly, what would you be doing if you weren’t modeling? And what is your guilty pleasure?

After I finished secondary school I want to work as an fulltime model. If I weren’t modelling, I would follow a study after. My guilty pleasure is chocolate and ice cream.

Featured Article: #art8ambyinterview with Laura Rakhman-Kidd

Meet Laura Rakhman-Kidd, 5’9″ Irish-Indonesian beauty who is currently reside in London and our next subject of #art8ambyinterview. Read on below to find out how she started modelling and why she keep 5 packets of Kerrygold butters on her fridge!

We learned that you have Indonesian heritage from your Father side, can you elaborate more about that? And what are your favourite things about Indonesia?

I was born in London, where my parents met. My mother moved us (I have two brothers and one sister) over to Ireland when I was about 7 or 8 as she didn’t want to raise us in the city. We moved around a fair bit but eventually settled in the country, in Ireland. I grew up desperately wishing I could live in London, I thought it would have been so cool, and I would have been really savvy! But looking back now I’m absolutely glad I grew up in Ireland, I was able to hold onto my naivety and wholesomeness for a lot longer than most kids.

As for Indonesia, I’ve only been twice. I went to Bali when I was two with my parents so I can’t remember it at all (the photos are sick though) and to Jakarta and Bandung to visit family when I was 12. We’ve never had much money and we’d all want to go as a family, so it’s difficult to get the cash for 5 tickets. Now that I’m modelling though, I would love to maybe try use work to get over and spend a few months there. Or even save up enough cash to bring all my family over, it’s been such a long time since I’ve seen that side of my family. My Nenek (Grandmother) and Kakek (Grandfather) have died since I’ve last seen them, and my father died a couple years ago. No one was able to get tickets to come over for the funeral so I haven’t even seen them since then. It would be really nice to reconnect and learn more about my family as my Dad was always the middleman between us, skyping them and calling them. My favourite thing about Indonesia is probably the food! It’s my favourite food, and the only way I’ve really got in touch with my roots. I love the intense, complex flavours and how you can see how much it’s been influenced in all the different regions. I love the time you can put into the food, it’s so rewarding and delicious. Since my Dad’s died I’ve really tried to learn about Indonesian cuisine, as he never taught us how to cook (which is a shame because he was an amazing chef). Cooking Indonesian food simultaneously gives me that feeling of comfort food and learning about myself.

How did you start your modelling career?

I did a couple hair modelling shows for friends of friends, but never thought anything of it. Then luckily a photographer who was with my current mother agent DMed me on Instagram and asked if I wanted to test. He introduced me to Anne, my mother agent, and the rest is history.

Who are the models that you look up to as inspiration? Have you ever met your favourite models/celebrity and get starstruck?

I remember coming across Charlotte Carey on Instagram and thinking she was so cool. You don’t really see South East Asian representation in fashion, at least not as much as East Asians. I was pretty pleased when I found out she was British/Indonesian. This was while I had just started modelling in Ireland and was realising how little representation there is of Asians in general in fashion and advertising. Seeing her made me think that maybe I could have a real go of modelling.

What is your beauty routine, and how do you maintain your slender physique?

I’m really bad a keeping to routines, haha! I’m kind of into skincare, I like taking the time to slather stuff on my face but usually I just wash it and slap Simple Moisturiser on. I’m lucky on the metabolism front so I don’t exercise at all, I’m actually really unfit. I have a terrible diet and never move. I think there’s butter running through my veins instead of actual blood, I’m disgusting.

What are the essential things you pack during travelling? Could you describe your style for casting week?

Another thing I’m really bad at! I always leave everything to the last minute so I’m forever forgetting things, but the list generally goes as such – adaptors, portable chargers, loooooads of books, sketchbook, earphones. I always bring a photo of me, my mammy and dad at the beach in Bali. Maybe a mini bottle of wine haha.

My style is whatever is clean and least crumpled, hastily grabbed from the carpet of clothes on my bedroom floor. Sometimes not clean.

Who is your all-time favourite singer or band? And what is your favourite TV shows to binge-watch?

Right now it’s Amy Winehouse. It changes a lot but anyone who knows me probably gets annoyed at me from sticking on an album every time I shower. I think she’s amazing.

Favourite shows are It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Archer, Rick and Morty, Eastbound and Down, Scrubs and QI.

And what is your guilty pleasure? Where is your favourite holiday destination?

BUTTER. Kerrygold butter. I keep 5 packets in my fridge at all times. I go through a pack a week (no lie) and hate running out so I always keep a little stock in case I’m too lazy to go to the shop/they don’t have it.

Probably Indonesia! I’m a hot weather gal and hate the cold. I’ve been thinking about getting an agency over there and just working/traveling there for a few months. We’ll see.

What do you usually do during your free time? Do you have hidden talent that nobody knows?

I read a lot, I write and cook. I like things I can really immerse myself in and take me out of my head. I’ve had a hectic few months this past while so I’ve been home when I have free time, being a little hermit. If I’m a bit less stressed I like to go to botanic gardens, museums and just walking around somewhere I haven’t been. I really like learning about the history behind places so I’m always dawdling looking at signs.

I don’t think so! I can pick up stuff with my toes, does that count?

Lastly, what would you be doing if you weren’t modeling?

God, I dunno. I’m really lucky that I got picked up for modelling to be honest, I dropped out of uni when I was 18 because I hated my course and was just waitressing for a while. Modelling’s pretty much my excuse for a now 3 year gap year. Maybe something like Art history or Philosophy, I quite fond of musing over things.

First of all, we’d like to congratulate you for being one of the 14 contestants of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 23. Could you share with us about the exciting process from the casting until the final announcement?

Thank you so much! I’m really excited to share a little bit about this unforgettable experience with you! I was scouted over Instagram by an ANTM angel at the beginning of the year. I honestly could hardly believe it was all real until halfway through the casting process. It’s so crazy because I’ve watched ANTM since I was a little girl, but I never would have thought to actually cast for it! Then finally after months of paperwork, interviews, and video/picture submissions I received a call that would change my life.

It was crazy because I dropped my phone earlier that day and my phone wasn’t working, but for some God-given reason I was able to receive that call. Thousands of women from all over the country applied to be on this 23rd cycle of America’s Next Top Model. I couldn’t be more proud and grateful that I was chosen as one of the top 14.

We understand that you have Indonesian heritage, can you elaborate more about that? And what are your favourite things about Indonesia?

I’m not Indonesian but I do consider Bali to be my hometown. I moved to Bali when I was 4 years old to live with my father who had just started a garment factory there. I lived there until I was about 14 when I started to crave new and different opportunities. It was so amazing to be able to grow up around so many different types of people, cultures, and religions. My unique upbringing definitely helped shape me into who I am today. I mean instead of going to amusement parks and museums for field trips, we climbed volcanoes and swam to waterfalls. Bali memiliki hatiku!

I have to say my favorite thing about Indonesia is probably how the different islands are so culturally different and yet Indonesia still has an incomparable sense of unity and national pride. Ohh and don’t get me started on the food!! I still put sambal on everything!

Who are the models that you look up to as inspiration to work in this industry? Have you ever met your favourite models/celebrity and get starstruck?

Zoë Isabella Kravitz is such an inspiration to me. She’s so multi-talented and I love that she used modeling as a platform to explore other avenues in the entertainment industry. I also admire how opinionated and politically active she is. Not to mention her exotic look is just absolutely stunning! I actually have quite a few of my favorite celebrities! I went to Rihanna‘s birthday last year and still to this day, very few parties compare… Just imagine all your idols in the same Cliffside glass venue turning up to celebrate the queen… Unreal.

Opening Prada and Chanel, appear on the cover of Vogue Italia, and walk for lots of fashion shows during fashion week are some of models biggest dreams. What would be your dream job in modeling industry?

I have so many interests and ideas; I’d really like to be a model that thrives in all facets of the industry. I want to travel more and show people that I can be both commercial and high fashion. I’d love to collaborate with brands to make my own lines and also be a spokeswoman/face. Walking in Paris, Milan, and NY Fashion Weeks are definitely dreams of mine as well.

What is your favourite beauty routine, and how do you maintain your natural curls and glowing complexion?

I get bi-monthly facials and make sure to always wash my hands and brushes before applying my makeup. I love Eradikate by Kate Sommerville when I need to get rid of a blemish practically overnight. Toners and under eye creams every morning and night are imperative as well. As far as my hair, I make sure to condition and brush my hair in the shower every single day, and I use Deva curl for definition. The key is moisture!

What are the essential things you pack during travelling and casting?

Music is literally like anti-anxiety/stress medication for me; so I make sure I carry earphones with me wherever I go. I also always have rose water spray in purse to keep my skin hydrated and glowy.

Can you share with us the story on how you started modelling?

The most popular girl’s clothing store in Bali while I was growing up was called Kiki’s Closet. All the little expat island princess’ were obsessed with it, including me. I was getting picked up from school one day when a woman approached me and asked if I wanted to model for her brand. I still remember the euphoric feeling that took over my body after she told me her brand’s name was Kiki’s Closet. After the photos came out I just kept getting more and more offers. 9 years later, I still look at those photos every so often and just smile.

Who is your all-time favourite singer or band and what is your favourite TV shows to binge-watch?

My music taste is so eclectic I could never pick a single all-time favorite. I honestly just appreciate all music so much. Travis Scott, Kaytranada, and Mr. Carmack are some of my favorites at the moment though. The Office, Are You The One, The Challenge, and Family Guy are always going to be go-to binge shows for me.

What do you usually do during your free time and what is your hidden talent that no one knows?

I don’t have any family in LA, my friends literally become my family. So in my free time I love spending time with them going to lunch, events, and random activities. I also love hiking and doing creative test shoots. Hmm, I don’t think I’d call it a “hidden talent” but I really love to dance!

Lastly, what would you be doing if you weren’t modeling? And what is your guilty pleasure?

Probably just taking extra classes at UCLA to graduate faster! Ahh reality shows are my guilty pleasure actually! My father always thought they were silly so I used to pretend I didn’t like them haha!

First of all, we would like to congratulate you on getting signed with Ford Paris! Could you share with us about the exciting process on how you got scouted by them?

Well, thank you so much! To be honest I feel like I am still dreaming and I haven’t woken up since September. I am so lucky that I am currently here in Paris, France, and that I am given the chance to work with amazing people that I can learn a lot from. It all started when I first join my mother agency in Jakarta, Indonesia, called Native Models ID.

They started taking my polaroids and posted some on Instagram. Days later, I was approached by Ford Paris. Native Models ID, Ford Paris and I were working on my travel plan after that, and now I am on their board, signed the contract recently.

Tell us a bit more about you, Laras!

I was born in Balikpapan, East kalimantan on December 15th, 1997. I have two brothers and one sister, and I am the youngest.

Can you share with us the story on how you started modelling?

I was born and raised in Balikpapan, and when I was 17, I went to Jakarta for holiday. While I was there a friend of mine asked me to join an open casting for models held by a model agency based in Jakarta. I had no idea what to expect but I was chosen as one of their models. However, I was still finishing high school back then. I had my share of going back and forth Balikpapan and Jakarta for some jobs. When I graduated high school, I finally had the guts to asked my parents to let me stay in Jakarta and pursue my modelling career. It took a while for my parents to let me go, but now they support me.

Who are the models that you look up to as inspiration to work in this industry?

Kate Moss, I love her!

Opening Prada and Chanel and landed the cover slot of Vogue Italia are some of models biggest dreams. What would be your dream job in modeling industry?

Walk for international fashion weeks and all of those you just mentioned, of course!

What is your daily beauty routine, and how do you maintain your physique?

Don’t really have a daily routine to be honest. Basic skin care and vitamins are essentials. I wear lotion no matter what, this is number one on my beauty list. I also don’t leave house without applying it on the back of my hands. Drink plenty of water. I always try to make sure I drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.

How do you usually style yourself during casting and what are the essential items you carry on your bag everywhere?

Wear something simple and casual, like a cool jacket or some oversized sweater/shirt/tank top with short pants or high-waisted skinny jeans.

I basically carry around the same things every single day, just switching some stuff out once in awhile. I obviously always have my wallet with me because I can’t be without it.

I try to keep my bag as organized as possible, which is why I always have a shiny wallet because I need something easy to spot to grab the cash, and tiny little makeup bag with me. It holds my smaller essentials so that they don’t get lost in the bottom of my bag. I always make sure to have a variety of lip salves to keep my lips feeling soft, sanitary wipes for when I need to go to toilet, make up and perfume. It’s important to always look fresh-faced when you go to castings and meeting clients.

I try to always keep my charger with me just in case my cell phone battery is dying in the middle of the day. I carry a lot of stuffs in my bag because I have motto “be prepared”.

Who is your all-time favourite singer or band?

I’m a music lover, so I listen to everything literally without complaining about it, but I do have my favorite genres. I like electronic like Breakbot, I like pop a lot. I like HAIM. I love classical music too. I like the violin and the piano and the guitar. Anything with those sounds will turn me on. I like trance music as well. I like jazz such as Jamie Cullum. I like indie music as well! I just love everything really, but it depends on the mood I’m in.

What you usually do during your free time? What is your guilty pleasure? And what is your hidden talent that nobody knows?

I love to eat anything sweet! That’s my guiltiest of pleasure. I don’t think I have a hidden talent.

Lastly, what would you be doing if you weren’t modeling?

Literally, I have no idea. I think I’d be trying to find my passion other than modelling.

Featured Article: #art8ambyinterview with Oliver Pras

We catching up for a quick #art8ambyinterview session with the dashing Oliver Pras, Indonesian-American model who was once one of the faces of GAP and currently being busy as TV host for a travel and adventures program. He shares his dream gig as a model and his guilty pleasure with us!

Images courtesy of art8amby, GAP and Oliver Prasetyo‘s Instagram respectively.

Can you share the story of how did you get scouted and started modeling?

I was found on the subway one night coming home from work. I was asked to attend a fashion show casting. I had no idea what to expect and was chosen as one of the models to walk.

Who are the models that inspired you? Have you ever met your favourite models and experienced starstruck?

Some inspirations includes Sean O’Pry and Kim Woo Bin. I’ve briefly met Sean at an event in NYC, but no stars truck. It was a very cool and casual conversation.

What would be your ultimate dream gig as a model?

Hm, that’s a tough one. I feel like I’ve accomplished a lot as a model. I’ve already walked for many shows and been in a bunch of campaigns. But, I wouldn’t mind walking in some shows in Milan ☺️

What is your daily grooming routine and how do you maintain your physique?

Don’t really have a daily grooming routine to be honest. Basic skin care is essential. I do take some time to do my hair in all different styles. If you catch me ever wig a backwards baseball cap, it’s because I was too lazy to do my hair that day. 😁 As for physique, maintaining a regular exercise regimen is important. I go to the gym about 3-4 times a week.

What is your favourite look during casting, and what are the essential items you carry on your bag everywhere?

I think the essentials for male models are much more basic than our female counterparts. But generally I’ll bring a combination of white/black tee shirt and tank tops, skinny jeans, hair product and comb. I know a lot of other models carry make up kits, but if you maintain your skin properly, I don’t think it’s needed.

What is your favourite book and movie of all time? Who are you currently listening to on your music player?

Not much of a reader to be honest. Currently reading “Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren and I must say, it’s changed my life. I HIGHLY recommend this book! A recent favorite movie of mine is Captain America Civil War. I’m a huge comic book nerd and I thought that the movie did the comics justice and faithfully portrayed all of my favorite characters. As for what’s on my iPod, it’s a combination of 80’s music like Michael Jackson and 90’s.

What are you usually do during your free time? And what is your guilty pleasure?

On my free time I find time to hang out with my friends and family here in Jakarta. Guilty pleasure: mint chocolate chip ice cream.

What is your hidden talent that nobody knows?

I know the exact choreography for many boy bands including *NSYNC AND SHINee.

What do you think about Indonesia and do you have favourite holiday spots here? Also what is your favourite Indonesian food?

I love Indonesia. My favorite holiday spots are Gili, Lombok and Bali. Favorite Indonesian food: Sapi (beef) balado and rendang.

Last but not least, what would you be doing if you weren’t modeling?

I’d prob be still be working in my office job.

Of course the ‘dresscode’ to casting will always be white or black equals minimal. But I love to mix and match sometimes. I’m in love with Indonesia. Indo, kamu keren!
Well, I don’t have specific one but I don’t mind just chilling around Kemang, but i’m looking forward to go to Bandung. Yeap, I’ve never been there before 😦

Farah Angsana's Spring Summer 2012 collection - Oriental Enchantment

Last week, Art got this amazing opportunity to meet with Farah Angsana, the first Indonesian born (who was raised in Singapore, Los Angeles and London) fashion designer to presented her collection in Paris Fashion Week several years ago. The designer who graduated from Central School of Fashion in London held her last couple of collections in New York Fashion Week.

The humble lady who participated in our congratulatory #art8ambyonemillion hashtag last April answered our questions about her favourite things, her biggest dreams and shared her real thoughts about the upcoming Pre-Fall collection exclusively to art8amby.

How does it feels to be Indonesian descent fashion designer and showing your collections in one of the world’s fashion capitals?

In some senses I feel proud to be able to present my country, but in the other hand, I am just a fashion designer who happened to be at the International platform. Nothing special but just work harder with 10x pressure.

Tell us about your upcoming Pre-Fall 2012 collection. What are the inspirations?

Pre-fall collection is mostly about business not about inspirations that be able to show on the catwalk. A Pre-fall is a collection to deliver to the store in summer before the fall season. That is why it’s called pre-fall collection. I believe the general sales volume inspired me to do pre-fall collection in order to generate revenue to my company.

Which decades are your favourite and why?

I would have to say Belle Epoque for the true couture with limited luxury at that time, and the 50’s when the women dressed so beautifully and embraced their femininity and true elegance.

You’re attending Jakarta Fashion Week 2012 recently, what are your opinion about Indonesian fashion industry that can be considered growing rapidly. Would love to hear your opinion about some of the designs that you saw at JFW 2012 as well?

Unfortunately I didn’t see as much shows as I would like to during Jakarta Fashion Week. I believe that what I saw the designers in Indonesia are very creative and try to follow the trend. Although I dislike to comment other designers work but I would comment the good ones such as Ivan Gunawan. I was impressed with his creativity of using vibrant colors and the energy of his show. His type of work could be called couture. It was done nicely. Beside Ivan, there was another designer I couldn’t recalled his name, but he did a stand out contemporary collection that was all in white. I was amazed with Indonesian talents from what my witnessed during Jakarta Fashion Week. Also I feel sad at the same time to witnessed some horrific taste and badly copied collections. Fortunately, it’s not me to judge but my advice to them is to inspired another designers and brands it’s alright, but you need to take it and mould it into your own.

What are your favourite food, movies and songs?

I love all foods in general. In term of movies, it has to be intellectually moves me. Currently I love and adore Adele. Mostly of her lyrics and her amazing voice that moves me. Especially at this point in my life, some of her lyrics reflecting my life and some experiences I’ve encountered.

What is your biggest dream?

To be loved, happy, healthy and the recognition of my hard work.

The rotation of the fashion seasons are really fast, what do you do to keep the inspirations coming?

Mostly through traveling. I always inspired by cultures, people and experiencing the unknown and the unexpected every seasons in my life. With the unexpected, it will brings me to the mysterious journey that I could explore and translate into my collection.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?

My favorite holiday destination are Bali, St.Barts, south of France and my bedroom!

A very special thanks to Farah Angsana for the remarkable opportunity.
