Featured Article: Vogue US 2013 Covers Recap
In 2013, Vogue US had a quite good year, cover wise.
Anna Wintour finally gave the cover slot for the much deserving celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain (both were photographed by Mario Testino and Annie Leibovitz respectively). Anna also gave buxom model Kate Upton her first ever Vogue US front page spot. Lots of people hated the news when they first heard about the rumor, but the result was suprisingly good. She wears Dolce & Gabbana on the cover that was shot by Mario Testino. Now we just have to wait and see if the rumour of Girls‘ creator and leading lady, Lena Dunham lands the upcoming cover of the magazine true or not.
Peruvian Mario Testino is one of Anna‘s favourite photographers, and this year the 59 year old photographed two more covers other than Jen-Law and Kate Upton. He shot The Great Gatsby actress Carey Mulligan and two-time cover star (in a lovely chartreuse Oscar De La Renta dress) for May, and Academy Award winning actress Kate Winslet for November issue.
Mario Testino is not the only one who repeats the cover stint for the monthly fashion bible, because 64 year old American Annie Leibovitz also shot several covers besides our favourite Jessica Chastain‘s December issue. She photographed the January issue with Gwen Stefani in Saint Laurent, April with Michelle Obama in Reed Krakoff (another favourite!), July with Katy Perry in Rodarte, and August with Claire Danes in Burberry Prorsum.
Fashion photographers David Sims (born in UK), Patrick Demarchelier (French), and Peter Lindbergh (German) shot the rest of the cover slots this year with Rooney Mara, Beyoncé, and Sandra Bullock respectively.
