Featured Article: Jennifer Lopez for Harper’s Bazaar US February 2019

Jennifer Lopez wears Gucci and Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello on the February covers of Harper’s Bazaar US photographed by Camilla Akrans with styling by Patrick Mackie. Hair and makeup by Lorenzo Martin and Scott Barnes.

On getting herself ready for her current relationship: “For me, the relationship journey has been very up and down. But it didn’t have to do with anybody else but me—it was about me figuring out me. Until you learn to love yourself, you can’t completely love [someone else] in a way that is pure and true. Once you do that, you can have relationships that are based on love and respect, that are supportive and nourishing. There’s an evolution there that had to happen for me. I feel like I’m in a better place now.”

On struggling with the constant pressure and unwanted scrutiny of living life in the public eye: “You’re trying to do your best and people are putting you down, or trying to make believe you’re not a nice person, or you’re a diva. I’m always like, ‘Who are you talking about?’”

On the power of believing in yourself and pushing past bias: “From early on in my career, I felt like people wanted to put me in a box. You will play these sorts of roles, do this type of thing. Or you will only act. You cannot sing and act at the same time. I felt very confined by that because I knew I was going to do different things. I was at least going to try!”

On her 10-year-old daughter, Emme: “I don’t know if she’ll follow in my footsteps, but she definitely has the genes. She’s a natural. Some people, you put them out there and you can just tell. She’s a little me.” Images courtesy of Harper’s BAZAAR. (source)

Featured Article: Zoë Kravitz for Harper’s Bazaar US October 2018

In the October issue of Harper’s BAZAAR US, Zoë Kravitz runs with wolves and goes completely unretouched—celebrating the spirit of the actress in her natural state. Speaking with her Big Little Lies co-star Reese Witherspoon, Zoë opens up about her childhood and famous family, the lack of representation in Hollywood and how humor influences her coveted style.

Zoë wears Louis Vuitton dress and Cartier earrings on the cover photographed by Camilla Akrans with styling by Patrick Mackie. Hair and makeup by Nikki Nelms and Nina Park.

On appearing completely unretouched for Harper’s BAZAAR:

Reese Witherspoon: “I’m learning so much about you. For some celebrities, the fact that your shoot was about unretouched images would be more frightening than facing a pack of wolves. Did you have any anxiety about that?”

Zoë Kravitz: “I was a little scared when they told me. What scared me most was that I was scared about it… [but after retouching] You’re like, ‘That is 100 percent not what I look like!’”

On speaking out against racial stereotyping in Hollywood: “I’m not necessarily trying to point the finger at anyone. I just want to make these writers, most of whom are probably white, aware of the things that affect me and likely affect other people as well. I’m trying to speak my mind and shift things so Hollywood can be more conscious about things. My biggest pet peeve is when I read scripts that have character descriptions like ‘Stacy, 22, perky,’ then you get four pages in and see, ‘Sarah, 22, African-American,’ which makes it clear that everyone else is white.”

On growing up biracial and her grandmother, Roxie Roker’s legacy of inspiring change: “When I got older I realized, ‘Oh, that’s why it was a big deal that my grandmother was married to a white man on the show [The Jeffersons].’ I had mixed parents, so I didn’t see it as a big deal. Then when I was educated about what the world was like, I was like, ‘This is a huge deal.’ It was brave of her to go there. I don’t think her intention was to shake things up. It was actually her truth: She was married to a white man.” (source)
