Me and Paula Verhoeven
Batik Danar Hadi, the powerhouse label famously known of their batik collections just held a fashion show “The Glory of Batik” collaborating with five Indonesian foremost fashion designers: Oscar Lawalata, Carmanita, Ghea Panggabean, Hutama Adhi and Sapto Djojokartiko at The Ritz-Carlton Pacific Place, Jakarta, Indonesia on April 28th, 2011.
Each designers presented sixteen collections using the exquisite batik printed fabrics with their own imaginations. The fashion show made me love this beautiful cloth that traditionally uses a manual wax-resist dyeing technique even more! Of course we still have that ubër famous let’s-wear-batik-every-friday action, but it was more than that. It’s about appreciating our Indonesian heritage and take it to the next level! I bet you still remember how international designer, Dries Van Noten translated it to a chic collections for his Spring Summer 2010 show in Paris back in October 2009.
From the casual parang printed batik dresses by Oscar Lawalata (oh, don’t forget to check out those batik turbans!); the formal male collections by Danar Hadi Men; to the glamourous evening gowns with sequins and beads detailing by Sapto Djojokartiko, proves that the beautiful fabrics can be very versatile!
As usual, I made a visit to the backstage before and after the show to took pictures of my favourite subject : models. Twenty five female models and eight male models walked the runway with live performances from Lea Simanjuntak (in Danar Hadi and Hutama Adhi dresses), Marcel (wearing Danar Hadi and Carmanita), Rossa (in Oscar Lawalata and Sapto Djojokartiko) and Ruth Sahanaya (wearing Danar Hadi and Ghea Panggabean).
Some of the models who walked for the shows are Paula Verhoeven (one of my favourite); Christina (she proved that she’s a professional model by still walked the show even though she’s not feeling well. Get well soon dear!); Nadya; Tya; Dhining; Whulandary Herman (the winner of Best Fashion Model at the 2010 Fashion Asia Award in China); Frans (who’s also an actor); Thiago; Thomas (1st runner up of L-Men of The Year 2010); Karina; Masha; Sharlotta Senk; Ilmira (her actor husband, Teuku Zacky, also walked for the show) and JIM Models girls: Sarah, Pamela, Mega, Prinka, Filant and Ksenia (the main girl for Elle Indonesia 3rd anniversary editorials!)
Enjoy the images below and please forgive the blurry images. Art is way better in taking photographs but unfortunately he’s overseas at the moment. He’ll be back this October 😉

Yesterday I had the chance to attended the 2011 Bridal Collection fashion show of Indonesian Designer Sapto Djojokartiko (click to visit his blog where he posted all of his works there) at Ballroom The Ritz-Carlton Pacific Place Jakarta. I also got the fabulous chance to visited the backstage during make up session and rehearsal just before the show started where 12 models of JIM Models wearing the designer’s exquisite and lovely wedding dresses!!
The models are Fillant, Mega, Pamela, Moudy, Sarah, Antie, Ocha, Merry, Prinka, Drina Ciputra, Marcella Tanaya (she opened the show and just won an award for 2011 Talented New Female Model from Amica Indonesia earlier that night) and the humble Juanita (who closed the show).
I also bumped to some of my friends there, Kaymori (blogger and stylist for iCreate Indonesia) and Luki Ali of lukimages (photographer). The beautiful model and photographer Nicoline Patricia Malina also made appearance on the show. She’s super nice!
The show was in conjunction with Harper’s Bazaar Indonesia “Bazaar Bridal Week 2011” that will be held until this Sunday, April 10th 2011 at Ballroom The Pacific Place. Izabel Jahja, the Editor in Chief of the magazine posed for the second time for art8amby. Thank you ma’am!. Sapto Djojokartiko also opened a booth there (click for the designer’s post of the event) and I took some photos of the collections featured. If you’re in Jakarta, make sure you visits the event and who knows, you will find the wedding dress you’ve dreamed about 😉
