Vanity Fair started this year with good covers such as the January issue featuring Lady Gaga by Annie Leibovitz, and a trio of Matt Damon, Daniel Craig and George Clooney for February, also by Mrs.Leibovitz. And then they produced the always exciting March issue, which featured top rising names in movie industry such as Rooney Mara, Jennifer Lawrence, Mia Wasikowska and Jessica Chastain, photographed with a vintage 1920’s feeling by Mario Testino..
..They falls flat with Julia Roberts on the April issue but then redeemed it with pleasant for the eyes covers in the following months with Julianna Margulies, Claire Danes, Sofia Vergara, Michelle Dockery (May), Marilyn Monroe (June), Kristen Stewart (July), and Alec Baldwin (August).
Vanity Fair sinking into the worst-covers-of-the-year hole with their September, October and November edition respectively that’s featured one paparazzi-like shot of Kate Middleton, one OMG-WTF-is-this image of Katie Holmes, and last but not least, one awfully taken snap of a smirking Daniel Craig, in front of a golden girl’s lady part. The subscriber cover from September issue with Jessica Chastain was quite decent, but it’s such a shame they didn’t used it as the main cover.
Thank God for Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott who shot supermodel Kate Moss to perfection for the magazine’s December issue. We’re really hoping that Vanity Fair would never, ever again producing front pages like those three worst covers this year.

The cover is featuring gorgeous TV actresses: Claire Danes, 33 (Showtime‘s Homeland), Mireille Enos, 36 (AMC‘s The Killing), January Jones, 34 (AMC‘s Mad Men), Julianna Margulies, 45 (CBS‘ The Good Wife), Emmy Rossum, 25 (Showtime‘s Shameless), and Kyra Sedgwick, 46 (TNT‘s The Closer).

Aah, Harper’s Bazaar US… Great cover stars but with bad cover layouts. Too much texts don’t you think?
The magazine helmed by Glenda Bailey since 2001 will reduce their frequency to 10 issues next year, combining June/July and December/January (starting already with the one with Madonna on the cover), and will increase its trim size. Hopefully they’ll also upgrade their covers line up next year. Amen.
They started this year with The Good Wife‘s Julianna Margulies lensed by Alexi Lubomirski. The cover is one of my least favourites along with Kim Kardashian‘s March issue by Terry Richardson. The subscriber covers featuring models Lily Donaldson and Magdalena Frackowiak were way better that those.
Nicole Kidman and her signature ginger hair graced the February issue as she was lensed by Alexi Lubomirski and interviewed by Jennifer Aniston. The subs cover is better, no? Fellow actress Courteney Cox landed the April cover slot, lensed by Terry Richardson.
Lady Gaga landed two covers this year and I kinda liked both of the newsstands’s. The May issue (remember that prosthetic cheekbones?) was by Terry Richardson while the no-make-up October cover was by Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin.
Britney Spears was another well known singers who graced this year’s covers of Harper’s Bazaar US. She was snapped by Alexi Lubomirski for June/July issue and made her fans happy because she’s returning on the front pages of magazines. Beyoncé was photographed by Terry Richardson for the November cover while the Queen of Pop, Madonna, made her comeback on glossy magazine covers for the December 2011/January 2012 issue lensed by Tom Munro along with Andrea Riseborough, her leading lady in W.E, a new movie she directed.
The rest of the covers are featuring former Academy Award host, Anne Hathaway in Gucci and Miu Miu for August by Alexi Lubomirski, his third works this year. Lea Michele wore Yves Saint Laurent on the important September issue photographed by Mark Seliger. The subscriber cover was lensed once again by Terry Richardson featuring the gorgeous Karmen Pedaru. Hopefully next year Harper’s Bazaar will featured models on their newsstands covers, not just subscriber’s.
What are your favourite covers this year guys? You can also check out our last year recap of the magazine, here.
