Featured Article: Vogue China 2012 Covers Recap


Chinese top catwalker, Ming Xi, is the first 2012 cover girl of Vogue China. The image snapped by Li Qi marks Ming Xi‘s third Vogue China cover in just 6 months! They must have really loved her.

More homegrown models and celebrities are also featured on the covers this year i.e actress Vicki Zhao for February by Kai Z Feng (our least favourite image from the line up); actress Fan Bing Bing for two different covers of April by Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin; Liu Wen–who shares the slot with fellow model Monika Jagaciak–for July by Patrick Demarchelier; rising models Tian Yi, Xiao Wen Ju and Liu Wen (this is her third consecutive September issue covers for the magazine!) for September issue also by Inez & Vinoodh; and last but not least, actress Li Bing Bing for their anniversary issue, photographed by Chen Man.

The rest of the line up are featuring some of the top and established names in modelling industry. Isabeli Fontana and Natasha Poly wears Prada pleats dresses on the March cover, by Inez & Vinoodh. Natasha Poly also landed her second cover for Vogue China this year for November, in front of Willy Vanderperre‘s lens wearing Dolce & Gabbana. Arizona Muse wears Lanvin for May issue, shot by Josh Olins. Doutzen Kroes, in Chanel swimsuit, posed for Sølve Sundsbø on the June issue. The infamous multi-colored sweater from Céline was featured for the August cover, with Kati Nescher by Josh Olins. And the leggy Karlie Kloss closed the year in a blood red Valentino Couture dress and cape, photographed by Sølve Sundsbø.

Fifteen More Covers of i-D Magazine Fall 2012

i-D Magazine already mentioned that they will published the remaining 15 covers right after they teased us with the stunning Kolfinna Kristófersdóttir cover by Boo George.

Sara Moonves, Edward Enninful and Patti Wilson are the main stylist for the covers photographed by Matt Jones, Emma Summerton and Daniele Duella and Iango Henzi. One of the best covers in the bunch are the Chen Man photographed image featuring lovely actor Fan Bingbing, in which she was styled by Tim Lim.

The remaining cover models are the top names and household women in the modelling industry such as Amber Valetta, Aymeline Valade, Candice Huffine, Edie Campbell, Gisele Bundchen, Guinevere Van Seenus, Isabeli Fontana, Iselin Steiro, Jourdan Dunn, Karen Elson, Kristen McMenamy, Linda Evangelista, Natasha Poly, and Stephanie Seymour.

Numéro China 2011 Covers Recap

Numéro China only have 14 issues so far (their first issue with Liu Wen on the front page was launched in September 2010), but their covers are good, combining familiar faces with great styling and minimalist backgrounds.

Two Chinese supermodels landed the honour of featured for two covers this year. The former face of H&M, Hogan by Karl Lagerfeld, Gap, David Yurman, Anna Sui and Giorgio Armani, 29 year old Du Juan, was photographed by Mei Yuan Gui for the magazine’s first 2011 cover and by Tiziano Magni for June/July issue while the 23 year old Liu Wen–the current face of Estée Lauder and the first Asian model to ever walked on Victoria’s Secret runway–was photographed by Kai Z Feng for March cover and by Tiziano Magzi for one of the September covers (the other one was featured fellow Estée Lauder‘s campaign girl, Constance Jablonski).

Tiziano Magni snapped most of the covers for Numéro China this year. Besides two covers mentioned earlier, the Italian born photographer also lensed Chinese actress Fan Bing Bing for April; Burberry model Edie Campbell for May; top model and the current face of L’Oreal, Liya Kebede for October; and my favourite cover of the year, December issue featuring Doutzen Kroes.

The rest of the covers are featuring one of the models for the 2012 Pirelli Calendar, Edita Vilkeviciute, who was photographed by Kai Z Feng for August front page and the rising Chinese model, Ming Xi by Claus Wickrath for November issue.

Vogue China 2011 Covers Recap

35 year old Chinese actress Li Bing Bing graced the first 2011 cover of her hometown fashion publication, Vogue, photographed by Max Vadukul. Five editions later, fellow actress Fan Bing Bing (both are not related) graced the minimalist July cover lensed by Josh Olins.

Three more actresses graced the covers of Vogue China this year: Scarlett Johansson for April by Peter Lindbergh, Maggie Q for October by Daniel Jackson and Zhou Xun for December by Sølve Sundsbø.

The rest of the covers are belongs to models: Gisele Bundchen sitting pretty for February issue lensed by Patrick Demarchelier; Lara Stone posed for two gorgeous March covers (my fave!) by Inez & Vinoodh; a reprint of Frida Gustavsson for May issue by Arthur Elgort; Natalia Vodianova on her second Vogue China cover for June by Peter Lindbergh; rising model Ming Xi for August issue by Daniel Jackson; current Chinese famous models–Du Juan, Sui He, Fei Fei Sun, Liu Wen, Ming Xi and Shu Pei Qin— for September issue (also my fave!) once again by Inez & Vinoodh; and last but not least, Edita Vilkeviciute for November by Peter Lindbergh.
