Vogue Portugal is one of the magazines who likes to use reprint as their covers. Not that’s anything wrong with it, but unfortunately their reprint covers are too boring for me.
My only favourite this year is Sasha Pivovarova‘s January cover, a reprint from Vogue US November 2010 “Naturally Refined” spread photographed by Patrick Demarchelier.
The magazine celebrated their 100th issue in February with the only non model/celebrity cover which I don’t like at all. They should’ve using another image other than that. A stunning image of Dutch model Melissa Tammerijn by Richard Burbridge from the February 2011 issue of Vogue Russia was used for the March cover. Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen was photographed by Patrick Demarchelier in Boyish Allure editorial that published in the February issue of Vogue China, an image from the ed was reprinted for the April cover.
A reprint from Vogue Nippon April 2011 lensed by Sølve Sundsbø featuring the model who just walked her first Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show recenty, Caroline Brasch Nielsen, was used for the May cover. Siri Tollerod graced the June cover photographed by David Roemer, a reprint from her spread in Vogue Mexico March 2011. South African bombshell Candice Swanepoel featured for the July cover that was taken from her editorial shot by Steven Meisel in the February 2011 issue of Vogue Italia.
Cédric Buchet snapped another Victoria’s Secret catwalk first timer, Karmen Pedaru, for Paradis Bleu editorial in the June/July issue of Vogue Paris which was used for the August cover image of Vogue Portugal while Auguste Abeliunaite was photographed by Luis Monteiro for September issue, their first non reprint cover this year and it’s looked kinda US Vogue, no? Hopefully they produce more original cover.
The current face of Pura Lopez, Elena Sudakova was photographed by Bojana Tatarska for October cover. Sara Sampaio, the current face of Blumarine was shot naked by Luis Monteiro for the magazine’s November issue, not a reprint. And that leads us to last cover of 2011, Sophie Vlaming photographed by Raphael Delorme and Tierno Sy.
Well, I can’t say that I’m satisfied with this year’s covers line up but I really do appreciate their efforts to make original covers and hopefully they’ll make even more next year.
