Elle UK improved their covers line up this year and I’m really happy with that. 2011 covers are more colorful (you’ll see red masthead, purple, blue and gold backgrounds) compared to last year‘s mostly grey background and black and white mastheads.
They started this year with the first pixie cropped cover star, actor Carey Mulligan who was photographed by David Slijper for January issue. The next short haired cover stars are top model Agyness Deyn for October also by David Slijper (a version of the subscriber cover with Joan Smalls was snapped by Alexei Hay), Emma Watson for November by Rankin (I love the unique subs cover!) and Michelle Williams‘ first Elle UK cover for December by Alexei Hay.
The subscriber covers of the remaining issues are better than the newsstands in my opinion: Cheryl Cole for February by Jan Welters, Gwen Stefani for April by Matthias Vriens-McGrath, Reese Witherspoon for May by Ben Hassett, Cameron Diaz for June by Jan Welters, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley for July by Terry Tsiolis, Lily Allen for August by David Slijper (the Coco Rocha‘s subscriber cover was by Matthias Vriens-McGrath), and last but not least Kirsten Dunst for September by David Slijper (he shot four covers this year!).
I must say, Elle UK produces some of the most interesting subscriber covers ever. Good job!
Oh, and I love the simply striking both covers of Keira Knightley‘s March issue photographed by Terry Tsiolis. The cameras just love her face!
