Vogue China is continuing their love for plain background in this year’s line up. 17 out of 19 covers used single solid color of either grey, white (with a hint of twigs), maroon, blue-ish, or gold.
Our favourite this year’s goes to Arizona Muse with strong pose for March and Li Bingbing serene yet elegant look on October issue, which happens to be the only covers with multiple color stroke as the backdrop. Maybe they should take some risk and make cover with more dynamic and vibrant background.
Eventhough we are not really digging the boring use of background, but we appreciate the amazing set of cover stars this year. They tapped acclaimed homegrown actors Zhou Xun, Maggie Chung, Zhang Ziyi, Li Bingbing, and Shu Qi who posed in front of Karl Lagerfeld, Sølve Sundsbø, Patrick Demarchelier, Chen Man, and Mario Testino lens respectively. Angelica Cheung, who has been editor since its launch in September 2005, also tapped top fashion photographers Patrick Demarchelier, Inez and Vinoodh, Willy Vanderperre, and Josh Olins to work with her on the cover shoots this year.
They also have singer turned fashion designer Victoria Beckham, and top catwalkers Constance Jablonski, Fei Fei Sun (she landed two covers this year!), Cara Delevigne (her first slot for Vogue China), Doutzen Kroes, Sasha Pivovarova, Kati Nescher, Xiao Wen Ju, Liu Wen, Daria Strokous, Sui He, and Mariacarla Boscono (who made a notable comeback in 2013).
Vogue China celebrating their 100th issue this year with special issue photographed by Mario Testino, and we are wishing them the very best for another 100 issues.
