We must appreciates Elle US editors decision to choose other color than white as the backdrop on their usually boring newsstands covers this year. The only interesting image with white backdrop was Blake Lively‘s March issue, but that’s only because of her strong pose. We are not loving Katherine Heigl‘s January, Reese Witherspoon‘s February, Rihanna‘s May, and Katie Holmes‘ August issue, at all.
Their first attempt was dark grey background, for Jessica Simpson‘s naked April cover, and we are not impressed by it. They used bold red and combined it with Kristen Stewart for June, which kinda worked and interesting. Selena Gomez posed in a black and gold Dolce & Gabbana dress in front of summer-ish ombré blue background for July issue, while shocking pink was used for their September cover to matched Katy Perry‘s pink sequined dress from Bottega Veneta. One of the worst covers of the year nominees is Britney Spears‘ October issue. Oh, how we wished they’ve used different background color other than the dull grey, and less photoshop next time, please!
The November (there are 5 different subs covers and Kristen Wiig‘s is our fave!) and December covers with Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Lawrence are the best images with colored backdrop. We love how Alexi Lubomirski snapped SJP‘s perfectly flowing hair and Carter Smith did a good job capturing Jennifer Lawrence‘s subtle sexiness. Jennifer‘s subscriber cover is also one of the best subscriber covers that Elle US has ever produced.

The headlines placement on this year’s covers from Harper’s Bazaar Australia are better than 2011 and 2010. It’s mostly one-sided, so it doesn’t quite covering the cover stars. Just like they shown on Taylor Swift‘s April (by Benny Horne) and Kate Moss‘ August issue (the image by Terry Richardson is a perfect example for the use of reprints, same as Gwyneth‘s May cover, also by Richardson). You can also noticed that they used sleeker fonts on the newsstands and very minimal texts (which is great) on the subscribers.
Naomi Watts was the first cover star to graced Bazaar Australia‘s front page in 2012. The British-Australian actress was photographed by Victor Demarchelier, the son of the well-known Patrick, who also snapped top models Jessica Stam for March and Constance Jablonski (she recently left Marilyn and moved to DNA for her New York representation) for September issue. Naomi Watts‘ pal, Nicole Kidman, graced the undoubtedly the best cover from Harper’s Bazaar Australia this year. The 45 year old Academy Award winner was snapped by Will Davidson, together with her lovely daughter, Faith Margaret for the beautiful June/July cover. The Australian born Davidson also photographed fellow Aussie Rose Byrne for the magazine’s October issue slot.
Harper’s Bazaar brighten up their last two issues of 2012 with bright yellow mastheads. The November and December covers featuring actress Emily Blunt, and model Georgia May Jagger, were photographed by Jason Bell and Jason Kibbler respectively. Emily Blunt‘s sultry look clearly outshines Georgia May‘s arched-too-far face, but both subscriber covers were great!
The magazine already released their first 2013 cover, featuring actress and style icon Kate Bosworth, and she looks amazing!

The 43 year old front lady of No Doubt and fashion designer is wearing Saint Laurent Spring Summer 2013 on the first 2013 cover from Vogue US, photographed stunningly by Annie Leibovitz. Even though the Vogue masthead looks weird placed in front of the hat, but it’s still a great cover to start the new year!
