Teen Vogue 2011 Covers Recap

Teen Vogue US always gave the same covers posed this year. From waist above. Kinda boring but thank God for two lovely cover stars: Emma Stone/23 (snapped by Daniel Jackson for September issue) and Chloë Moretz/14 (snapped by Paola Kudacki for December 2010/January 2012 issue).

The editor in chief, Amy Astley and her team chose singers, TV actresses (plus an actor) and movie stars for their cover stars this year. Most of them are obviously not teenage anymore.

December 2010/January 2011 cover star Cory Monteith is the oldest one. He is 29! While his co-star in Glee, Lea Michele is 25. Both of them were photographed by Regan Cameron. I usually don’t like Alexa Chung on magazine covers, but I must say that the 28 year old host and model looked pretty and young for November issue lensed by Paola Kudacki. Paola Kudacki also snapped Phil Collins‘s daughter, Lily, 22, for the October issue front page.

24 year old Ashley Greene had an awkwardly long neck on the March cover photographed by the famous Patrick Demarchelier who’s also photographed Academy Award nominated actress, Jennifer Lawrence, 22, for May, Pretty Little Liars‘s Lucy Hale, 22, for February and Selena Gomez, 19, for June/July issue.

Vampire Diaries‘s leading cast, Nina Dobrev (22) looked young photographed by Regan Cameron for the April cover while on the contrary, Taylor Swift (21) looked way older on the August cover lensed by Daniel Jackson.

InStyle US 2011 Covers Recap

The first cover star in 2011 for InStyle US was a Academy Award winning actress, Gwyneth Paltrow lensed by Michelangelo di Battista. The issue marked the 200th editions of the magazine edited by Ariel Foxman and first published in November 1993.

Michelangelo di Battista also photographed another Academy Award winner, Natalie Portman for February issue while Julianne Moore–who’s also snapped by him–graced the March issue and also related to Oscars because she was nominated four times (in 2003 she was nominated for two different categories).

One of Hollywood’s funniest ladies, Tina Fey, graced the magazine’s annual Color issue lensed by David Slijper. Katie Holmes on the front page of August was also the work of the British born photographer.

One of my favourite covers from InStyle US is the May issue with Kate Hudson by Michelangelo di Battista who’s also snapped Beyoncé for September, Gwen Stefani for November and Eva Longoria for July issue, their very first scented issue, where you can find five rub-and-smell spots in it with the scents of watermelon, grass, suntan lotion, popcorn and ice coffee. Interesting!

Young singer Taylor Swift landed her second InStyle cover in yellow Victoria Beckham for June, photographed by Regan Cameron. Fellow singer, Katy Perry was pretty in pink for the October cover lensed by photographer duo Jenny Cage and Tom Betterton. InStyle US closed their covers line up this year with 37 year old Amy Adams for December who looked very young and flawless lensed by Vincent Peters. Photoshop much?

Featured Article: Pirelli Calendar 2012

The highly anticipated 2012 Pirelli Calendar is finally released yesterday! Italian born Mario Sorrenti landed the honour to photographed some of the world’s most beautiful models and actresses (Isabeli Fontana, Natasha Poly, Saskia de Brauw, Lara Stone, Joan Smalls, Guinevere van Seenus, Malgosia Bela, Edita Vilkevicute, Kate Moss, Milla Jovovich, Margareth Made and Rinko Kikuchi) in Corsica for the exclusive calendar which featured 25 images this year. Believe it or not, despite Pirelli is an Italian company, but Mario Sorrenti is the first Italian photographer to shot the calendar!

Karl Lagerfeld, Terry Richardson, Peter Beard, Patrick Demarchelier, Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin and Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott were the photographers of the calendar for the past six years. You may click the links to view their complete works.

The 40 year old photographer talked to 4 Traders about how many people around when he’s shooting nude:

“I just kept it to me and my assistant, and then I made everybody else go away. Basically, I made a very specific structure for how the day and the photographs were going to go. I would spend the first two or three hours on my own with the model, photographing her, and really just getting to know her if I didn’t know her. After that I would bring in the behind-the-scenes team. I didn’t want the girls to be distracted by that.”

“A lot of them also didn’t want to be filmed nude and I wanted them to be completely nude in the photographs. So after a while, for the behind-the- scenes video, we put on some clothes that could work and then we got the behind-the-scenes people to come in and do their stuff. But by that point, I had already achieved what I was trying to do, which was really super intimate. It’s actually the most intimate that I’ve been in a really long time taking pictures, which was really nice.”

Longchamp Spring Summer 2012 Ad Campaign

UPDATED JANUARY 19th 2012: Added seven new campaign images via TFS.

UPDATED JANUARY 08th 2012: Added two new images via TFS.

Longchamp had its models (top model Coco Rocha and one of Balenciaga‘s Fall Winter 2011 campaign girls, Liisa Winkler) chasing after frisky dogs, hopping over police barricades and literally dancing in the streets for its Spring Summer campaign spots, slated to break in February magazines.

“We really wanted to show this woman very active in the city, very dynamic,” said Sophie Delafontaine, head of design at the family-owned house, which has recently branched out from its core leather goods into ready-to-wear, footwear and other accessories.

Longchamp hired a new agency, Air Paris, to realize a campaign its head creative director Tho Van Tran describes as “a bit unconventional, and nonstatic in all senses of the word.”

He tapped photographer Dane Shitagi, known for his portraits of dancers from the New York City Ballet, to capture scenarios loosely based on musical comedies and recalling the arch elegance of fashion editorials from the Fifties and Sixties.
