Harper’s Bazaar US 2011 Covers Recap

Aah, Harper’s Bazaar US… Great cover stars but with bad cover layouts. Too much texts don’t you think?

The magazine helmed by Glenda Bailey since 2001 will reduce their frequency to 10 issues next year, combining June/July and December/January (starting already with the one with Madonna on the cover), and will increase its trim size. Hopefully they’ll also upgrade their covers line up next year. Amen.

They started this year with The Good Wife‘s Julianna Margulies lensed by Alexi Lubomirski. The cover is one of my least favourites along with Kim Kardashian‘s March issue by Terry Richardson. The subscriber covers featuring models Lily Donaldson and Magdalena Frackowiak were way better that those.

Nicole Kidman and her signature ginger hair graced the February issue as she was lensed by Alexi Lubomirski and interviewed by Jennifer Aniston. The subs cover is better, no? Fellow actress Courteney Cox landed the April cover slot, lensed by Terry Richardson.

Lady Gaga landed two covers this year and I kinda liked both of the newsstands’s. The May issue (remember that prosthetic cheekbones?) was by Terry Richardson while the no-make-up October cover was by Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin.

Britney Spears was another well known singers who graced this year’s covers of Harper’s Bazaar US. She was snapped by Alexi Lubomirski for June/July issue and made her fans happy because she’s returning on the front pages of magazines. Beyoncé was photographed by Terry Richardson for the November cover while the Queen of Pop, Madonna, made her comeback on glossy magazine covers for the December 2011/January 2012 issue lensed by Tom Munro along with Andrea Riseborough, her leading lady in W.E, a new movie she directed.

The rest of the covers are featuring former Academy Award host, Anne Hathaway in Gucci and Miu Miu for August by Alexi Lubomirski, his third works this year. Lea Michele wore Yves Saint Laurent on the important September issue photographed by Mark Seliger. The subscriber cover was lensed once again by Terry Richardson featuring the gorgeous Karmen Pedaru. Hopefully next year Harper’s Bazaar will featured models on their newsstands covers, not just subscriber’s.

Harper’s Bazaar UK 2011 Covers Recap

Harper’s Bazaar UK gave three issues that have the same images for the subscriber and newsstands version. They are Gwyneth Paltrow‘s March cover lensed by Alexi Lubomirski, Eva Green‘s June cover by Camilla Akrans, and the 90’s supermodels–Yasmin Le Bon, Helena Christensen, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Eva Herzigova— for December cover by Jonas Akerlund.

Here are the rest of the covers this year from Lucy Yeomans edited monthly magazine. Most of the subs covers are better than the newsstands (January, February, April, July and November):

The new face of YSL Opium, Emily Blunt graced the January cover in blue dress from Tom Ford as she photographed by Paola Kudacki; actress Rebecca Hall for February by Alexi Lubomirski; the then pregnant Eva Herzigova‘s first Bazaar UK cover in 2011 for April by Michaelangelo di Battista; supermodel Kate Moss for May issue by Sølve Sundsbø, the newsstands cover was a reenactment of her hologram appearance from the FW 2006 Alexander McQueen fashion show.

Another supermodel Claudia Schiffer summery cover for July issue by Horst Diekgerdes; Emma Watson for August by Alexi Lubomirski; Beyoncé for the coveted September issue cover slot lensed by Alexi Lubomirski; Alexa Chung for October issue by Ellen von Unwerth; and Academy Award winning actress, Kate Winslet for November cover snapped by Tom Munro.

35 year old Chinese actress Li Bing Bing graced the first 2011 cover of her hometown fashion publication, Vogue, photographed by Max Vadukul. Five editions later, fellow actress Fan Bing Bing (both are not related) graced the minimalist July cover lensed by Josh Olins.

Three more actresses graced the covers of Vogue China this year: Scarlett Johansson for April by Peter Lindbergh, Maggie Q for October by Daniel Jackson and Zhou Xun for December by Sølve Sundsbø.

The rest of the covers are belongs to models: Gisele Bundchen sitting pretty for February issue lensed by Patrick Demarchelier; Lara Stone posed for two gorgeous March covers (my fave!) by Inez & Vinoodh; a reprint of Frida Gustavsson for May issue by Arthur Elgort; Natalia Vodianova on her second Vogue China cover for June by Peter Lindbergh; rising model Ming Xi for August issue by Daniel Jackson; current Chinese famous models–Du Juan, Sui He, Fei Fei Sun, Liu Wen, Ming Xi and Shu Pei Qin— for September issue (also my fave!) once again by Inez & Vinoodh; and last but not least, Edita Vilkeviciute for November by Peter Lindbergh.
