Featured Article: Dazed & Confused 2012 Covers Recap

Dazed & Confused‘s covers are really diverse this year, in a good way. They produced some of the most interesting covers in their history.

We love Grimes‘ April issue, in which she was photographed by Hedi Slimane wearing the unmistakable Givenchy Spring Summer 2012 Haute Couture crystal nose ring and matching earrings. We love the crystal encrusted headpiece that artist Theo-Mass Lexileictous wears on the May cover, shot by Walter Pfeiffer. We love the eerie image of actor Noomi Rapace, by Sølve Sundsbø on the June issue. We also love how controversial their September issue was, with Azealia Banks blowing an inflated red condom, shot by Sharif Hamza.

Their October issue with model Joan Smalls and actor Sam Riley was subtly sexy yet seductive. They’re sensually bitting an apple to match the “Temptation” headline, photographed by Sean & Seng. Iris Apfel‘s November cover (in a bright Comme des Garçons voluminous dress) was one of our favourites this year as well. The 91 year old fashion icon looks amazing on the image snapped by Jeff Bark. Even though some people hated it, but their December issue with Angelababy, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, and Nicola Formichetti (all four images were photographed by Matt Irwin) was the most fun and playful images they’ve ever published.

The rest of the cover stars this year are actress Rooney Mara, rappers A$AP Rocky and Snoop Dogg, rising models Erjona Ala, Frida Aasen, Kati Nescher, Lara Mullen, and Zenia Sevastyanova.

Azelia Banks for Dazed & Confused September 2012

This cover photographed by Sharif Hamza and styled by Karen Langley has been banned in several countries due to the controversial condom-blowing graphic, donned by rising rapper Azelia Banks.

Kenneth Cole Spring Summer 2012 Ad Campaign

UPDATED FEBRUARY 06th 2012: Added three new campaign images featuring Casey Taylor and Angela Lindvall lensed by Sharif Hamza via TFS.

Quoted via WWD:

Kenneth Cole likes to touch on issues of the moment in his advertising, and for the spring campaign, he is suggesting that the best way to look at the world is from within. The ads, shot by Sharif Hamza at the abandoned Floyd Bennett airfield in Brooklyn with models Angela Lindvall and Casey Taylor, feature the tag line “How You See the World Depends on How You Look.” According to the company, the idea behind this is that looking good results in feeling good, and that in turn could inspire people to have a more positive influence on the world.

“This season’s campaign speaks to the empowering feelings people experience when they consider their lives as well as their wardrobe alternatives,” Cole said. “When you consider that few seem to care about apathy, many are questioning the answers, and movements are being started.…One step at a time, one comes to the conclusion that how people see the world depends on how they look.”

The ads will break in March magazines such as Vogue, InStyle, T: The New York Times Style Magazine and GQ, as well as kennethcole.com. Hamza also shot three short films that address the concept, which will be shown on the site, as well as in Kenneth Cole stores.

Absolut Mode 2011 Ad Campaign

Shannan Click posed behind one-way mirrors for the 2011 ad campaign images of Absolut Mode. While photographer Sharif Hamza and the crew could watch and photograph through the glass, she could only see her own reflection in the surrounding mirror panes.

The limited edition product will be released this holiday season.

The campaign was styled by Veronique Didry, the hair was done by Luke Jersheson while the make up by Lucia Pica. Katrin Wesolowski was the casting director.
