The absolutely boring cover was photographed by David Sims. Seeing this disappointment, we kinda wish that Vogue US would’ve gone with the rumour of Kate Upton on the February issue cover. Probably they would’ve done something better than this.

Dazed & Confused‘s covers are really diverse this year, in a good way. They produced some of the most interesting covers in their history.
We love Grimes‘ April issue, in which she was photographed by Hedi Slimane wearing the unmistakable Givenchy Spring Summer 2012 Haute Couture crystal nose ring and matching earrings. We love the crystal encrusted headpiece that artist Theo-Mass Lexileictous wears on the May cover, shot by Walter Pfeiffer. We love the eerie image of actor Noomi Rapace, by Sølve Sundsbø on the June issue. We also love how controversial their September issue was, with Azealia Banks blowing an inflated red condom, shot by Sharif Hamza.
Their October issue with model Joan Smalls and actor Sam Riley was subtly sexy yet seductive. They’re sensually bitting an apple to match the “Temptation” headline, photographed by Sean & Seng. Iris Apfel‘s November cover (in a bright Comme des Garçons voluminous dress) was one of our favourites this year as well. The 91 year old fashion icon looks amazing on the image snapped by Jeff Bark. Even though some people hated it, but their December issue with Angelababy, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, and Nicola Formichetti (all four images were photographed by Matt Irwin) was the most fun and playful images they’ve ever published.
The rest of the cover stars this year are actress Rooney Mara, rappers A$AP Rocky and Snoop Dogg, rising models Erjona Ala, Frida Aasen, Kati Nescher, Lara Mullen, and Zenia Sevastyanova.

W Magazine really blown us away with their amazing set of covers this year. From Mrs. Marcus Mumford, Carey Mulligan, who looks divine on the January cover by Michael Thompson; to Brad Pitt and Charlize Theron (she also graced her second cover this year on August, with her Prometheus co-star Michael Fassbender, by Mario Sorrenti) who looks glamour on the dual covers of February issue also by Mario Sorrenti; and one of the best covers this year featuring Ms. Kate Moss, as an angel and a sinner, photographed stunningly by Steven Klein for the March issue.
Jessica Biel promoting her wedding with a front page slot in the magazine for April, shot by Mikael Jansson. While fellow actors Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman was snapped by Emma Summerton for the May issue, promoting Hemingway & Gellhorn. Mega star Tom Cruise looked badass accompanied by top models Edita Vilkeviciute and Abbey Lee Kershaw, and photographed by Mario Sorrenti, for the magazine’s June issue. Just in time for him to let others know that Rock of Ages was released on the same month.
Another well known models who landed the coveted W Magazine slot this year are MTV House of Style hosts, Joan Smalls and Karlie Kloss. Their photoshopped version were featured on the July issue, snapped by Steven Meisel. The rest of the cover stars are all bright, talented and gorgeous! September cover girl was Penelope Cruz, by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott; October with Jennifer Lawrence by Tim Walker (great cover star, bad cover image), November with Keira Knightley, Mia Wasikowska, Rooney Mara, and Scarlett Johansson, all snapped by Steven Klein; and last but not least, December with Marion Cotillard by Tim Walker.

Vanity Fair started this year with good covers such as the January issue featuring Lady Gaga by Annie Leibovitz, and a trio of Matt Damon, Daniel Craig and George Clooney for February, also by Mrs.Leibovitz. And then they produced the always exciting March issue, which featured top rising names in movie industry such as Rooney Mara, Jennifer Lawrence, Mia Wasikowska and Jessica Chastain, photographed with a vintage 1920′s feeling by Mario Testino..
..They falls flat with Julia Roberts on the April issue but then redeemed it with pleasant for the eyes covers in the following months with Julianna Margulies, Claire Danes, Sofia Vergara, Michelle Dockery (May), Marilyn Monroe (June), Kristen Stewart (July), and Alec Baldwin (August).
Vanity Fair sinking into the worst-covers-of-the-year hole with their September, October and November edition respectively that’s featured one paparazzi-like shot of Kate Middleton, one OMG-WTF-is-this image of Katie Holmes, and last but not least, one awfully taken snap of a smirking Daniel Craig, in front of a golden girl’s lady part. The subscriber cover from September issue with Jessica Chastain was quite decent, but it’s such a shame they didn’t used it as the main cover.
Thank God for Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott who shot supermodel Kate Moss to perfection for the magazine’s December issue. We’re really hoping that Vanity Fair would never, ever again producing front pages like those three worst covers this year.

UPDATED OCTOBER 16th 2012: The covers were photographed by Steven Klein with the styling works by Edward Enninful. Val Garland and Luigi Murenu were responsible for the make up and hair do respectively.
W Magazine choose four amazingly talented and beautiful actresses to grace their special 40th anniversary covers. Each actress is representing a decade on the cover: Keira Knightley (who looks superbly striking in blonde!) – the 2000s, Mia Wasikowska – the 1980s, Rooney Mara – the 1970s, and Scarlett Johansson – the 1990s.
The covers were photographed by Steven Klein and styled by Edward Enninful.

Quoted from VanityFair.com:
The first-ever Hollywood Issue cover shoot from Vanity Fair contributing photographer Mario Testino, a bevy of Hollywood’s most precocious beauties lounge across a three-panel foldout—including two new Oscar nominees.
The Art Deco set was designed to evoke the all-white, Jazz Age interiors of English decorator Syrie Maugham, whose clients included Bunny Mellon, Elsa Schiaparelli, and the Duchess of Windsor; Vanity Fair’s fashion and style director, Jessica Diehl, put the 11 cover starlets in pastel satin dresses and frothy feathers to lend a 20s and 30s boudoir feel.
Across the panels are actresses Rooney Mara, Mia Wasikowska, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Elizabeth Olsen, Adepero Oduye, Shailene Woodley, Paula Patton, Felicity Jones, Lily Collins, and Brit Marling.
Mara and Chastain—both featured on the front panel—were nominated for Academy Awards in January, Mara for her portrayal of cyberpunk hacker Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Chastain for her supporting role in Tate Taylor’s Oscar heavyweight, The Help. (The Julliard grad also had starring roles in Take Shelter, The Tree of Life, and Coriolanus in 2011).
