Featured Article: Vogue Paris 2012 Covers Recap

Ukrainian Canadian top model Daria Werbowy is still a Vogue Paris favourite even though Carine Roitfeld no longer helmed the monthly high end fashion publication. The 29 year old graced three covers in 2012, and worked with top notch photographer like Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin (for February and November issue), and Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott (for September issue with fellow supermodel Lara Stone and Kate Moss–who also featured on the October cover with George Michael).

Special remarks goes to Kate Moss and Lara Stone who making appearances on the front page for third consecutive year. It proves that VP editors are also loved them. Other distinguished names who graced the magazine covers last year are Natalia Vodianova/March, Doutzen Kroes/April, Laetitia Casta/May, Gisele Bundchen/June-July (easily our favourite!), Marion Cotillard/August, and the first lady of France, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy/December.

Dear Emmanuelle Alt, we don’t want to see plain boring grey nor white background anymore in 2013. Oh, one more thing. We must say that your October cover is the worst in the history of Vogue Paris. Please, do not produce anything like that, ever again. Sincerely, your concerned readers.

Featured Article: Vogue Australia 2012 Covers Recap

Ever since the new editor in chief of Vogue Australia fully take over the magazine for September issue, you can’t help but noticed that they made a history, because Edwina McCann (former EIC of Harper’s Bazaar Australia for the past three years) made a very first subscriber cover version for Vogue.

Fortunately for Edwina McCann (who took over the position from Kirstie Clements who have helmed Vogue Australia for 10 years), her risqué decision was worth it, especially the gorgeous September issue featuring the striking Bella Heathcote, who was shot by Will Davidson and styled by Stevie Dance. The following issues, October and November with Lana Del Rey and top model Catherine McNeill (her third consecutive year appearing on the cover!), also delivered striking images as the covers that was snapped by Nicole Bentley and Benny Horne respectively. The current December cover is a different story. As much as we love the race-winning horse Black Caviar, but there’s something off with the model, Julia Nobis. We wish she could engage a little bit of emotion with her co-star and Benny Horne‘s lens.

The other cover that we love is the February issue featuring Marloes Horst, by Nicole Bentley. It’s summer ready and beautiful. Bentley landed two other cover slots this year for the magazine, July issue with singer Delta Goodrem, and August issue with model Abbey Lee Kershaw. Kai Z Feng being the second photographer who landed the most cover jobs for Vogue Australia after Bentley. He snapped three consecutive covers in a row: March with Karlie Kloss, April with Julia Frauche, and May with the stunning Joan Smalls.

The rest of the front pages line up were photographed by Cedric Buchet for January with Karmen Pedaru (reprint from Vogue Paris June/July 2011), and Daniel Jackson for June with Daria Werbowy.

Which one is your favourite cover(s) this year from Vogue Australia, guys? Feel free to jump in the discussion in comment box below. You can also read our 2011 recap, here, and 2010 recap, here.

Featured Article: Vogue Japan 2012 Covers Recap

Giampaolo Sgura is really gaining lots of attention this year. Besides shooting editorials that published in various major fashion publication, the Italian photographer also shot his second Dolce & Gabbana campaign this year. He also photographed four covers for Vogue Japan this particular year: January issue with Maryna Linchuk; March issue with Dolce‘s campaign star, Bianca Balti; August issue with Anja Rubik; and December cover with Kendra Spears.

Dutch duo, Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin snapped two covers for Vogue Japan this year, with two Darias: Werbowy for July and Strokous for October (that Comme des Garçons dress really grabbing the attention).

The rest of the front page slot this year were given to huge names in photography, such as Sølve Sundsbø for February issue with Saskia de Brauw (we love the soft color palette), Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott for April issue with Kate Moss (one of the year’s worst cover, really), Terry Richardson for June issue with Candice Swanepoel, rising duo Daniele Duella and Iango Henzi for May with Natasha Poly, Mikael Jansson for September issue with Karlie Kloss (our favourite!), and Patrick Demarchelier for November issue with Aymeline Valade.
